New Meeting of the Thomas More Institute | Wednesday 12 June 2013, from 8:30 am to 10 am | Restaurant le Procope, Paris | Debate in French

From the competitiveness pact to his most recent press conference, including the launch of the BPI and the convention on entrepreneurship, François Hollande strives to disseminate his new credo: everything has been made to create the long awaited “shock of Competitiveness”… However, the current situation is grim: zero growth, rising unemployment, stalled business investment, loss of market share… Though the over taxation and the over regulation, aren’t we destroying the French entrepreneurship? 

Nevertheless, solutions exist to ease labor laws and decrease its cost, to enhance productivity and stimulate innovation, to simplify the legal and regulatory environnement in order to make it more SME friendly. But it is also a state of mind that ought to be changed, by getting away from clichés and commonplaces, which have been influencing for too long the economic debate in our country.

]]> Sat, 18 May 2013 10:00:00 +0000 <![CDATA[Can François Hollande make up for lost time?]]> Lethargy, wait-and-see attitude, tetany, lost time, action mired in the present, etc. We could go on at length, just by quoting adjectives and comments that were supposed to qualify the way François Hollande has been managing for the last weeks the affairs of the country. May the press conference that he held on Thursday, 16th May, be seen as a direct answer to those among his political opponents and especially among his friends, who were disheartened by the slow pace of decision-making. Can he make out of the second year of his term, a year of political offensive, as he pretends to ? Can he find a way to break up with Europe's languor, as he says he is committed to ? Does he have a vision, a political perspective for the future, for the 10 years to come? Can François Hollande make up for lost time ?
